Monday nighter has draft implications

September 26, 2016

Monday nighter has draft implications … It is generally not good for the NFL when its Monday night game has draft implications, but that could be the case when New Orleans hosts Atlanta within the hour (8:25 ESPN). That’s because the Saints are one of just four remaining winless the teams in the league thru the first three weeks of the schedule. A loss tonight and the Saints would be 0-3 along with Cleveland, Chicago and Jacksonville. On the other hand if the Saints beat the Falcons, and they are probably favored, all four teams in the NFC South would be 1-2. And the one thing we might have learned from the three other winless teams is that Chicago may have pushed ahead of Cleveland as the early favorite to end up with the #1 pick at the 2017 draft. For the third week in a row, the Bears lost badly – this time in Dallas – in a game in which they seldom looked competitive. In contrast, Cleveland lost a heartreaker for the second week in a row when they lost in OT to Miami in a game in which the Browns had chances to win. And yes it IS still too early to post the current selection order, but it will go up after either the 5th or 6th weeks. Stay tuned!
