Manziel named stater

November 17, 2015

Browns name Manziel starter for rest of year … Cleveland has reportedly named Johnny Manziel as the team’s starting QB for the rest of the year. The cynic might suggest that by giving the job to Manziel over veteran Josh McCown, who has generally been more productive, the 2-8 Browns, who are very much in the race for the #1 pick at the 2016 draft, are signalling they are tanking the season in order to get the best pick possible at the upcoming draft. However, the mercurial Manziel, whom the Browns selected with an opening round pick two years ago, is coming off his best outing as a pro as he completed 33 of 45 pass attempts for 372 yards in a road loss at Pittsburgh this past weekend. And however Manziel plays over the final 6 weeks of the campaign, most analysts figure that the Browns will be pretty much forced to take another QB with their top pick this year. The Browns have a bye this weekend and return to action on Monday November 30th when they host Baltimore in what could be a classic duel for the top pick this coming April as the two teams hold the 1-2 picks in the current first-round selection order for the 2016 draft!
