Luketa stays home; Metchie picked late in CFL draft

LB Luketa staya local; WR Metchie picked late in CFL draft … As noted earlier, Montreal selected Syracuse LB Tyrell Richards with the first pick overall in last night’s CFL draft of Canadian-born players. Montreal had acquired the first pick earlier in the day from Edmonton in exchange for the 4th pick and the rights to OT Carter O’Donnell. Ottawa then took OT Zach Pelehos from the University of Ottawa with the second pick, and followed that by making one of the splashes of the CFL draft when they took Penn State LB Jesse Luketa, who is from the Ottawa area, with their second round pick. Luketa was one of two players eligible for this year’s CFL draft who were selected at last weekend’s NFL draft with Luketa going to Arizona with a late 7th round pick. On the other hand, former Alabama WR John Metchie, who was a second round pick by Houston and is expected to be in the NFL for awhile, wasn’t taken until the final round of the CFL where he was nabbed by the B.C. Lions. Here is the full, 8-round selection order.
