Luck retiring: report

August 24, 2019

Star Colts’ QB Luck set to retire … In a bit of a shocker, there are multiple reports this evening that Indianapolis QB Andrew Luck has told team officials that he intends to retire. Luck has been dealing with a leg injury throughout the pre-season and is being described as ‘mentally worn down’ by the whole process. If true, the report brings home the vagaries of the sport. Luck was the first player selected at the 2012 draft; however, he wasn’t just considered to be the top prospect that year as he was generally regarded as THE prototype QB prospect. And Luck didn’t disappoint early in his career as he lead the resurgent Colts to the playoffs in each of his first three seasons. But Luck missed all of the 2017 season with a shoulder injury and while he returned last fall he really wasn’t the same guy. It is important to note, though, that Luck is still just 29 and it wouldn’t necessarily be a shock to see him attempt a comeback if he ultimately does get healthy at some point down the road. Meanwhile, Jacoby Brissett presumably take over as the Colts’ starter, although if Luck does not come back one would have to think that the Colts could be looking at the position early in the 2020 draft.
