Jones throws better at 2nd Tide pro day

Jones throws better at 2nd Tide pro day … Alabama QB Mac Jones probably had a better day today throwing the ball at the Tide’s second pro day than he did last week at Alabama’s first go-round. The ball still doesn’t explode out of his hand as it does with some of the stronger-armed QBs and there a few overthrows on a several deeper balls, but overall Jones showed better than advertised movement skills and for the most part put the ball where you wanted it to be. Certainly, San Francisco, which is rumored to be targeting Jones with the 3rd pick overall, got a good look at Jones as 49ers GM John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan spent the entire work out parked right behind him. So did the Patriots’ Bill Belichick, the only other big-name NFL exec, who appeared to be at today’s second Tide pro day. Couple of other things of note: star Tide WR DeVonta Smith, who was not expected to be on the field today as he is still recovering from a finger injury suffered in the national championship game, did run some routes for Jones and looked really quick. Maybe the other real highlight of the workout was just how well Alabama WR Najee Harris caught the ball, as he looked more like a WR.

Now its on to Ohio State where Justin Fields will in front of a crowd that reportedly includes as many as a dozen NFL G.M.s. For the record, Fields gave teams something to think about when he blitzed a 4.44 clocking in the 40.
