Jimmy G. ‘excused’ from Niners’ minicamp … Interesting storyline developing in San Francisco where the 49ers have reportedly excused veteran QB Jimmy Garoppolo from this week’s mandatory minicamp. Even if he was there, Garoppolo wouldn’t be participating on the field as he still hasn’t been cleared to play after undergoing off-season surgery on his throwing shoulder; however, all players would normally be expected to at least attend their team’s minicamp. No surprise, but that report is fueling increased speculation that once Garoppolo is cleared to play – and that’s expected within the next 3-4 weeks – that he will finally be traded with last year’s top pick, Trey Lance, expected to take over at QB this season. Currently, the rumors in the bay area are that Garoppolo is most likely headed to the Carolina Panthers when he is finally cleared. Stay tuned!
