BOOM! Jets trade up with Colts to grab 3rd pick … In a move that had to happen, the NY Jets have acquired the 3rd pick overall in this year’s draft from Indianapolis in exchange for the 6th pick, as well two second rounders this year (#s 37 and 49) as well as another second rounder. With the 3rd pick, the Jets are expected to select one of this year’s top QB prospects from a group that likely includes Sam Darnold of USC, UCLA’s Josh Rosen and Josh Allen of Wyoming. Its also a good move for the Colts who pick up some extra picks – they now have 4 top 50 picks – to add to one of the thinnest rosters in the league. In addition if QBs go 1-2-3 in this year’s opening round, the Colts should still be in position to take one of the top non QB prospects from either Penn State RB Saquon Barkley, NC State DE Bradley Chubb or Notre Dame OF Quenton Nelson. This deal also may have ramifications for Buffalo which has also reportedly been angling to move into the top 5 to take a QB after trading away incumbent starter Tyrod Taylor. Of course, the Bills could conceivably deal with either Cleveland or the Giants, who have the 1st and 2nd picks respectively, however, those two teams also have major needs at QB themselves and aren’t likely to deal. That could leave the Bills having to think about Oklahoma’s Baker Mayfield, perhaps by moving up ahead of Denver in a trade for Cleveland’s pick at #4. Stay tuned. In the meantime, we have updated the full selection order for the 2018 draft as well as the picks by team file.
