Is Tua back in play for top pick??? … That’s the question around the NFL today after news leaked out earlier this week that Alabama QB Tua Tagovailoa’s recovery from season-ending hip surgery is on pace. NFL Network analyst Bucky Brooks, for example, has Tagovailoa ranked as the #1 QB on his initial positional rankings released earlier today ahead of LSU’s Joe Burrow who had been considered to be the #1 prospect for the upcoming draft in the wake of Tua’s injury. Tagovailoa, of course, still has a ways to go before he gets a final clearance from NFL medical people. He won’t participate in this month’s scouting combine where he will undergo further medical tests and go through the interview process, but he reportedly will be able to work out for pro teams at a private pro day either in late March or early April. While it still may be something of a longshot, Tagovailoa has one thing that NFL teams covet in a potential franchsie QB that Burrow lacks and that’s elite arm strength. And while we don’t want to get a head of ourselves, all this could leave Cincinnati, which has the first pick overall this coming April with an interesting choice; a choice that could be even more interesting because both guys are sending out signals that they really don’t want to go to the Bengals. Stay tuned!
