Hula Bowl star game set to return … After a 12-year hiatus, the Hula Bowl all-star game will be making a comeback in late January. The renewal of the Hula Bowl is scheduled for Sunday, January 26th in Honolulu with KO planned for 10:30 PM ET. The game will be televised by the CBS Sports Network. Former NFL coaches Rex Ryan and Mike Smith will coach the teams, which will include players from the United States, Australia and Japan. For the record, the Hula Bowl will be played the day after the Senior Bowl where all the top prospects go, meaning that organizers may have to scramble to put together a representative roster. Game organizers are working on it though, as they have reportedly already invited as many as 37 players, including QBs Case Cookus of Northern Arizona and Vito Priore of Rhode Island; RBs Joshua Kelley of UCLA and Utah State’s Gerold Bright; WRs Juwan Johnson of Oregon, BYU’s Aleva Hifo, Jeff Cotton of Idaho and the Hawaii duo of Cedric Byrd and JoJo Ward; Portland State TE Charlie Taumoepeau; South Carolina State OT Alex Taylor; OGs Daishawn Dixon of San Diego State, Boise State’s John Molchon, Justin Polu of UNLV and Arlington Hambright of Colorado; Cs Nick Harris of Washington, Cohl Cabral of Arizona State, and Washington State’s Fred Mauigoa; DEs Christian Rector of Southern California, Bryce Sterk of Montana State and Alema Collins of Ottawa of Arizona; DTs Breiden Fehoko of LSU and New Mexico State’s Roy Lopez; ILBs Mykal Walker of Fresno State, Akeem Davis-Gaither of Appalachian State, Francis Bernard of Utah and Kyahva Tezino of San Diego State; OLBs Logan Wilson of Wyoming, Carter Coughlin of Minnesota, Cam Gill of Wagner, and Hawaii’s Kaimana Pedello; CBs Luq Barcoo of San Diego State, Monquavious Brinson of Georgia Southern, Myles Bryant of Washington and Hawaii’s Rojesterman Farris; and Notre Dame safety Alohi Gilman. Of course, these are just players that have been invited, and none has reportedly actually accepted to date.
