Giants release QB Jones … Somewhat surprisingly, the NY Giants have outright released QB Daniel Jones ending a rather tumultuous 6-year stint with the team. In fact, it was a rather dramatic slide for Jones who was officially benched on Monday, demoted to #3 QB on Tuesday and then further demoted to 4th string on Wednesday. In fact, Jones was not going to play again the fall as a precaution in case he suffered a serious injury which would have left the Giants on the hook for a huge salary cap hit next year. His release means that Jones is free to sign anywhere in the league and could conceivably find a home sooner rather than later with a team with playoff aspirations looking for some experienced depth at the position. Of course, it also means the 2-8 Giants, who would pick 3rd overall were the draft held today, will be almost certainly looking at the position with their top pick at the upcoming draft.
