Deadline day for underclassmen

January 17, 2020

Deadline day for underclassmen … Time has just about run out for underclassmen thinking about entering the 2020 as juniors and redshirt sophomores who want to enter the draft must file paperwork with the league by the end of business later today. In fact, most underclassmen intending to go pro this winter have already made their intentions known, as the list juniors and redshirt sophs who have indicated in one way or another that they will be entering this year’s draft is now at 110. Here is the full list of underclassmen to have declared to date. As well, the NFL has reportedly heard from just about all the prominent underclassmen who would have been expected to turn pro this winter. Indeed, the only remaining exceptions are several potential top prospects who played in this week’s national championship game in New Orleans including Clemson RB Travis Etienne, LB Isaiah Simmons and CB AJ Terrell, along with LSU OLB K’Lavon Chaisson. Once today’s deadline has passed, any underclassmen who had applied to the draft to withdraw their application if they had not signed with an agent or otherwise accepted any improper benefits will have a 72-hour window to withdraw their application. The NFL will them release a full list of underclassmen eligible for the 2020 draft on January 21st. And that list may include more names as there is no rule that players who do apply to the league for early entry actually have to make a formal announcement. Stay tuned!
