Deadline day for underclassmen

January 14, 2019

Deadline day for underclassmen … The clock is definitely running out for underclassmen still undecided or undeclared about their intention whether to forego their remaining college eligibility and enter the 2019 NFL draft as they have until midnight tonight to file paperwork with the league in order to be eligible. So far, what appears to be a record number of over 130 underclassmen have already indicated that they will in fact be entering the draft; however, the NFL is still waiting from a handful of big names. The biggest, of course, is Oklahoma junior QB Kyler Murray, this year’s Heisman Trophy winner whose entry into the draft would really spice up the top ten debate. Murray, though, reportedly met with the Oakland A’s, who selected him with the 9th pick overall in last spring’s MLB draft, and reportedly indicated that he would stick with baseball if the A’s increased his signing bonus money to $15M from the current figure of just under $5M. Meanwhile, there are several other big-name underclassmen NFL personnel people are waiting to hear from including star LB Devin White, a potential top 15-20 pick this year, along with Alabama OLB Anfernee Jennings, Clemson OLB Isaiah Simmons, Iowa sophomore TE TJ Hockenson, and Florida State junior PK Ricky Aguayo. Stay tuned.
