College Game Previews Week 13

November 23, 2018

Now that you have gotten past your Turkey Day feast and are getting a taste of Black Friday shopping (or a clue to what bills will be coming in a month) it is time to sit down to enjoy the last full football Saturday with some key college match-ups.

SAT NOV 24th NOON/ET ABC
FLORIDA (8-3) by 4 @ FLORIDA STATE (5-6)
It’s an in-state rivalry with the Seminoles needing a Win to keep streaks alive for consecutive years Bowling and non-losing records. The Gators can still wrap up a pretty important Bowl venue with a 9th WIN, in an impressive first season for Dan Mullen in Gainesville. Both teams have talented defenses but are erratic on offense. We may get to see a nice one-on-one matchup at times between OT/IVEY and DE/BANKS. I’ll take the visiting Gators in what may be a nail biter.

SAT NOV 24th NOON/ET FOX
MICHIGAN (10-1) by 3 @ OHIO STATE (10-1)
The way the Buckeyes have played in November I should have a bigger point spread on this, but… HARBAUGH is still winless against Ohio State since taking over at his alma mater. The game is after all in Columbus at the Horseshoe. This is not a game I would wager on, nor would I expect a lot of scoring. If the Wolverines play it too close to the vest on Offense, they leave themselves in danger of losing on a big play late in the contest, and the Buckeyes have a lot more weapons to pull off a winning drive and/or a big-play score. For the fans who like the new era scoring-fests this probably will put you to sleep, especially in the first half.
Michigan prospects to keep an eye on include:
#22 KARON HIGDON RB 5’10/200

SAT NOV 24th 7:30PM/ET SEC NETWORK
L.S.U. (9-2) @ TEXAS A&M (7-4) by 5
A&M has played a tough schedule even by SEC standards and lost some close ones. I am banking on JIMBO FISHER cooking up some surprises for the offensively challenged Bayou Bengals. If the Aggies can get to 20 points I think they win. If their O stumbles then the LSU D could smother them. Give it up for that 12th-man in College Station!
LSU pro prospects to watch include:
#18 FOSTER MOREAU TE 6’6/255
#78 GARRETT BRUMFIELD OG 6’3/200
#36 COLE TRACY K 6’0/185
#90 RASHARD LAWRENCE DL 6’3/300 JR *

SAT NOV 24th 10:15PM/ET ESPN
UTAH STATE (10-1) @ BOISE STATE (9-2) by 4
No it’s not a showdown in a Power 5 Conference, but it matches up two teams I have been touting in my Top 15 for a month now. The Aggies were 6-7 last season but have been laying the wood to opponents all season. Their only loss was in the opener at Michigan State,31-38. They have scored over 50 points 6 times this season. They returned 52 letterman this season and have put them to good use. BOISE seems to be in contention for the MW Title and a good Bowl slot, since like… well, forever it seems. They have depth throughout the ranks, but their big pro prospect is QB BRETT RYPIEN, nephew of former NFLer Mark Rypien. #4 is not elite but is a good athlete, with an above average arm and has been a starter since his true frosh season. Playing at home on the blue turf, with RYPIEN at the helm should give the Broncos a slight edge.
Utah State prospects include:
#1 RON’QUAVION TARVER WR 6’4/215
#76 ROMAN ANDRUS OG 6’4/300
#42 SULI TAMAIVENA ILB 6’0/230

BOISE STATE prospects to look for include:
#4 BRETT RYPIEN QB 6’2/205 *
#7 A.J. RICHARDSON WR 6’0/215 *
#55 DAVID MOA DE 6’3/280 INJ
#14 TYLER HORTON CB 5’11/185

Enjoy your weekend of games.

Cheers
