The season has trickled down to a precious few. Most teams have only 1 regular season game left (a few have 2) and then many big dogs have Conference Championship games to play. Here is how I currently rank the Top 20, with a look at who they still have to play. There could still be some ranking shake-ups with a few of these key match-ups still to play.

1) CLEMSON 11-0 @SOUTH CAROLINA/ACC CHAMPIONSHIP
2) ALABAMA 10-1 @ AUBURN/SEC CHAMPIONSHIP
3) IOWA 11-0 @NEBRASKA/BIG 10 CHAMPIONSHIP
4) NOTRE DAME 10-1 @STANFORD

5) OHIO STATE 10-1 @MICHIGAN
6) OKLAHOMA 10-1 @OKLAHOMA STATE
7) BAYLOR 9-1 @TCU/TEXAS
8) MICHIGAN STATE 10-1 PENN STATE
9) FLORIDA 10-1 FLORIDA STATE/SEC CHAMPIONSHIP
10) NORTH CAROLINA 10-1 @NC STATE/ACC CHAMPIONSHIP

11) MICHIGAN 9-2 OHIO STATE
12) OKLAHOMA STATE 10-1 OKLAHOMA
13) FLORIDA STATE 9-2 @FLORIDA
14) STANFORD 9-2 NOTRE DAME
15) NAVY 9-1 @HOUSTON/ARMY
16) WASHINGTON STATE 8-3 @WASHINGTON
17) NORTHWESTERN 9-1 ILLINOIS
18) OLE MISS 8-3 @MISS STATE
19) HOUSTON 10-1 NAVY
20) MISSISSIPPI STATE 8-3 OLE MISS

Honorable mention: UTAH, BYU, AIR FORCE, OREGON, UCLA, TCU, GEORGIA, TOLEDO, TEXAS A&M

A couple of additional observations. It clearly appears to me that the PAC-12, though it may send plenty of teams to Bowl Games, is very likely to get shut out of the Final Four. I’m also thinking that Notre Dame would clinch a FInal Four spot with a win over STANFORD. By the way, I was glad to hear that in this year’s deliberation process by the Play-Off ranking committee, wins over teams with winning records would be given serious weight in decision making. That has been one of Pigskin Paul’s big ranking factors for the past decade.
