College Football Preview Week 6

October 5, 2018

The schedule keeps rolling along with some interesting matchups for the first weekend of October. For more than a few teams, another Loss and they are pretty much out of the running for a New Years Bowl slot, even if they manage to run the table in the second half of their schedule. So some of these 1-2 Loss teams are really in desperation mode.

SAT Oct. 6th NOON/ET FOX
OKLAHOMA (5-0) by 4 vs. TEXAS (4-1)
So now we find out who really controls the Big-12 Conference for 2018. The Sooners are favored, but HC TOM HERMAN appears to have righted the Longhorns ship after an opening game stumble at Maryland. TEXAS has clearly played the tougher schedule to date, so Oklahoma needs to be ready to step it up a notch. I don’t see ether team being able to dominate defensively so expect some high scoring excitement. I’ll take the Sooners but we could well see one of those last possession game winners.
Oklahoma prospects include:
#75 DRu SAMIA OG 6’5/300
#72 BEN POWERS OG 6’4/315 INJ
#43 AUSTIN SEIBERT P/K 5’9/207

#18 DAVANTE DAVIS CB 6’2/205*

SAT Oct. 6th 3:30/ET CBS
LS.U. (5-0) by 2 @ FLORIDA (4-1)
The Bayou Bengals are on the prowl and showing some surprising Offense under transfer QB JOE BURROW #9. However, the key to their success is built upon the foundation of their tough Defense per usual. As many of us expected, new Florida HC DAN MULLEN, is quietly bringing the best coaching to the Swamp in Gainesville since a guy named MEYER left. But he still has a long way to go with turning FELEIPE FRANKS into a legit big time D1 QB. So it looks as though his D will be the key in keeping this game close. I am picking LSU by a deuce, and putting Florida fans on “upset alert” if it’s any kind of a real upset for LSU to win.
LSU prospects include:
#4 NICK BROSSETTE RB 6’0/218
#18 FOSTER MOREAU TE 6’6/255
#36 COLE TRACY K 6’0/185
#78 GARRETT BRUMFIELD OG 6’3/300. INJ

#54 KHARI CLARK DT 6’2/315
#96 CECE JEFFERSON OB/ER 6’1/242*
#33 DAVID REESE IB 6’0/239 JR
#23 CHAUNCY GARDNER-JOHNSON CB 6’0/205 JR*

SAT Oct. 6th 7PM/ET ESPN
KENTUCKY (5-0) @ TEXAS A&M (3-2) by 3
A&M has yet to win an SEC game this year under new HC JIMBO FISHER while the Wildcat program has really looked solid in MARK STOOPS 6th year in Lexington. The key for both has been their QB play. KELLEN MOND #11 has really responded well to JIMBO as his coach. Meanwhile, Oregon transfer TERRY WILSON #3 has blossomed under Stoops and OC EDDIE GRAN. So the big key becomes the Defense for both teams. One of these units needs to rise to the occasion and get some key stops during this contest. A&M is under the gun to break through, and I will peg the 12th Man to swing this game in their favor.
KENTUCKY prospects to watch:
#26 BENNY SNELL RB 5’11/225 JR*
#87 C.J. CONRAD TE 6’5/250
#98 TYMERE DUBOSE DL 6’5/315
#92 PHIL HOSKINS DT 6’5/305
#41 JOSH ALLEN OB/ER 6’5/250 *
#7 MIKE EDWARDS S 6’2/210 *

AGGIES prospects watch:
#78 KEATON SUTHERLAND OG 6’5/315
#36 DANIEL LaCAMERA K 6’4/230
#8 KINGSLEY KEKE DT 6’4/305
#42 OTARO ALAKA IB 6’3/240 *
#6 DONOVAN WILSON SS 6’1/207

SAT Oct. 6th 7:30/ET ESPN2
AUBURN (4-1) by 5 @ MISSISSIPPI STATE (3-2)
The Bulldogs have not won since the Conference schedule began. They seem to be having some adjustment issues to the new coaching staff under first time D1 Head Coach JOE MOORHEAD, and quite frankly QB NICK FITZGERALD has not looked like his old self, pre-ankle injury at the end of last years schedule. The AUBURN D is their backbone, but they have better than average fire power with JARRETT STIDHAM #8, at QB. This is a must win for both teams in the dog-eat-dog SEC.
AUBURN prospects to watch;
#8 JARRETT STIDHAM QB 6’3/215 JR*
#23 RYAN DAVIS WR/RS 5’9/175
#81 DARIUS SLAYTON WR 6’2/190 JR*
#27 CHANDLER COX TE/FB 6’1/239
#95 DONTAVIUS RUSSELL DT 6’3/310*
#5 DERRICK BROWN DT 6’5/315 JR*
#49 DARRELL WILLIAMS OB 6’2/245
#57 DESHAUN DAVIS IB 5’11/245*

MISS STATE top prospects:
#7 NICK FITZGERALD QB 6’5/230*
#22 AERIS WILLIAMS RB 6’1/220
#86 JESSE JACKSON WR 6’2/210
#74 ELGTON JENKINS OC 6’4/315*
#9 MONTEZ SWEAT DE/ER 6’6/242*
#94 JEFFERY SIMMONS DT 6’4/300 JR*
#4 GERRI GREEN DE/OB 6’2/255
#38 JONATHAN ABRAM SS 6’0/210
#41 MARK McLAURIN FS 6’2/215*

Some nice matchups here, and even more that I haven’t mentioned. Check your TV schedules carefully and set your recording devices. We are now in the heart of the 2018 College Football schedule. Enjoy!
