College football notebook … There are a number of recent injuries to prominent college players that we are following. Perhaps the potentially most impactful on the 2023 draft involves rising Texas Tech DE Tyree Wilson who was helped off the field in this past weekend’s game with Kansas with an ankle or foot injury and left the stadium on crutches. So far, there has been no update on Wilson, a potential top ten pick this coming April, from the school. Wilson landed awkwardedly when he tried to turn the corner while rushing the passer on Saturday, although there wasn’t any apparent contact. There also isn’t a definitive update on the status of Illinois RB Chase Brown, college football’s leading rusher, who injured a leg late in the Illini’s disappointing loss to Purdue this past weekend. The Illini are hoping that Brown will be available this weekend when they play unbeaten and 3rd ranked Michigan, but it may come down to a game time decision. Same for Clemson LB Trenton Simpson, a late first or early second round prospect for the upcoming draft, who did not play in Saturday’s win over Louisville because of an ankle injury; he too is listed as day-to-day prior to this weekend’s conference finale against Miami.
