College football Sunday morning update … It was supposed to be a quiet weekend in college football as teams warmed up for next week’s rivalry games and regular season finales, but instead it turned into upset Saturday as a number of prominent teams suffered upsets that have severely jeopardized their playoff aspirations. That list included Alabama which was throttled 24-3 by a 5-5 Oklahoma team for its third loss of the year. The Tide could still possibly sneak into the playoffs when the final rankings come out, but nobody at Alabama will be holding their breaths. It was a particularly miserable day in Norman for Tide QB Jalen Milroe, who may have seen any first-round draft aspirations go up in smoke as completed just 11 of 26 passes, three of which were picked including a pick six. same story for 9th ranked Mississippi and Rebels’ QB Jaxson Dart, which lost 24-17 at Florida to also drop to 8-3. Dart did throw for over 300 yards and a couple of scores, but also threw a couple of bad interceptions late in the contest that cost Ole Miss a chance at a late comeback. Meanwhile, other playoff contenders that saw their hopes dashed yesterday included Texas A&M, which lost 43-41 to Auburn in OT; Colorado, which lost at Kansas; and BYU which lost at Arizona State. As a result, it is going to be interesting to see how the rankings fall out how the CFP rankings fall out when they are announced on Tuesday; it also means that the conference championship games in two weeks have taken on added importance as they maybe the only way a number of top teams have left to get to the national playoff. For the most part, which teams get into those various games, though, is still very much up in the air. Stay tuned!
