CFL top 20

December 12, 2015

Hawkeye WR heads CFL draft top 20 … Iowa WR Tevaun Smith, a big-play receiver who only had 30 catches this fall, but averaged over 18 yards per,  is the top prospect overall on the CFL’s preliminary list of prospects for the 2016 draft. Three other players from big-time U.S. teams also made the CFL’s top 5 list including 6-5, 310-pound Oklahoma OT Josiah St. John, rangy (6-7, 286) Boston College DT Mehdi Abdesmad and Michigan State CB Arjen Colquhoun, who were rated 3-5 respectively. Interestingly, two of the CFL’s top 5 prospects – the Sooners’ st, John and Colquhoun of the Spartans – will be playing in the national semi-final games later this month. Meanwhile, the CFL’s top 5 is rounded out by Manitoba DT David Onyemata, who is ranked the 2nd overall prospect; the native of Nigeria is also likely to get some long looks from NFL teams this spring. The CFL draft usually takes place the week after the NFL draft.
