Louisiana pro day

Impressive day for Ragin’ Cajuns RB Elijah Mitchell as he was credited with an unofficial 4.32 40 time at the Louisiana pro day. And he backed that up with some other very athletic numbers including a 37.5-inch vertical and agility test times of 4.18 in the short shuttle and 6.87 in the 3-cone drill.

Duke pro day

Despite the fact that the Blue Devils were just 2-9 last fall, 31 of the NFL’s 32 team were at the Duke pro day. Many were there to see the Blue Devils edge-rushing combo of DEs Chris Rumph and Victor Dimukeje who combined to register 15.5 sacks between them last fall. Unfortunately, though, Rumph was unable to work… Read More »

Arizona State pro day

In the end, the only former Sun Devil to work out at the Arizona State pro day was veteran WR Frank Darby, a 3rd day prospect for the upcoming draft. And for the most part, Darby tested like an early-to-mid third day prospect as he measured in at a chiseled 6-1, 200, but with arms just under 32-inches… Read More »

North Carolina pro day

Nothing really spectacular at the UNC pro day, just a lot of guys checking off a lot of boxes. WR Dyami Brown, for example, ran pretty well, clocking times of 4.44 in the 40 and 6.90 in the three-cone drill, both of which would have been among the better figures at the 2020 combine; Brown’s short shuttle time… Read More »

Coastal Carolina pro day

The Chanticleers had a dream 11-1 season in which their only loss was in OT in their bowl game, while star DE Tarron Jackson had a dream season of his own in which he was the Sun Belt defensive player of the year, a consensus All-American, and a finalist for the prestigious Lombardi Award (along with Trevor Lawrence… Read More »

Boston College pro day

The key workouts at the BC were a little contradictory as both TE Hunter Long and LB Isaiah McDuffie timed well in the 40, whereas the rest of their workouts were kind of ‘meh’. Long, one of the top 2-3 prospects at the position for the upcoming draft, for example, was clocked in a very good 4.63 for… Read More »

South Dakota State pro day

South Dakota State WR Cade Johnson, a two-time FCS All-American who had 140 receptions for over 2,500 yards and 25 TDs over the past two seasons, was one of those small school stars NFL personnel people were eager to get a look at at their pro days. Unfortunately, Johnson came up a little short as in not very… Read More »

Georgia Southern pro day

The Eagles have an interesting second-tier edge rushing prospect in Ray Johnson, a 4-year starter who has been reasonably productive at Georgia Southern despite being somewhat miscast as an undersized 3-4 DE. Johnson measured in at 6-2, 260 at the Eagles pro day, but with reasonably long 33-inch arms. He also tested reasonably well, posting a 33-inch vertical,… Read More »

San Diego State pro day

SDSU CB Darren Hall is one of the better kept secrets in college football despite the fact that he tied for the national lead in total pass breakups in 2019 with 17. He followed that up in 2020 with three picks and 6 other pass breakups in 9 games as opponents generally stayed on the other side of… Read More »

SMU pro day

The Mustangs have a really intriguing DB prospect in CB Brandon Stephens who was actually originally recruited by UCLA as a RB; in fact, he played RB for the Pac-12 Bruins, albeit sparingly, for parts of three seasons before transferring to SMU where he switched to corner and ultimately broke up 22 passes in his two seasons out… Read More »

Pro day hilites

Northern Iowa: Both of Northern Iowa’s legit NFL prospects had really good pro day workouts. OT Spencer Brown, who measured in at a rangy 6-8.5, 311 with 34.75 inch arms, tested very well for a player that size. He put up 29 reps in the bench press and then ran a very athletic 40 in the 4.9-flat range,… Read More »

North Texas pro day

The Mean Green haven’t had a player drafted since 2004 but see that streak ended this year as WR Jaelon Darden is part of the deep receiver class fo 2021. Darden, who had a breakout year this past fall when he caught 76 passes for over 1,100 yards and 19 TDs in just 9 games, isn’t all that… Read More »

Memphis pro day

NFL teams were very interested to see how Memphis RB Kenneth Gainwell tested after he had a breakout year in 2019 when he had over 2,000 yards from scrimmage including 1,460 on the ground while catching 51 passes for another 600 yards. Gainwell, though, is another player who opted out of the 2020 season so hasn’t been seen… Read More »

Mississippi State pro day

The featured player at the Mississippi State pro day was RB Kylin Hill who had a breakout year in 2019 when he ran for over 1,300 yards and 10 TDs, but then opted out on the Bulldogs after 3 games – and 58 measly yards – this past season. Hill was solid, albeit unspectacular in his return to… Read More »

UCLA pro day

The Bruins only had a couple of players working out at their pro day, but they were both guys that the NFL wanted to see work out. Odd-sized DT Osa Odighizuwa, for example, measured in as an odd-sized DT at 6-1.5 and 282 pounds, although he did impress with 34-inch arms and big (10.5-inch) hands. He also posted… Read More »

Trade gives Dolphins premium pick lead

Trades move Dolphins up in total picks count … Because the major components changing hands in yesterday’s monster opening round deals involving Miami, San Francisco and Philadelphia were first round picks in 2022 and 2023, there wasn’t much change in the overall draft capital of the three teams. Once the smoke had cleared, Miami did add a 2021… Read More »

Cards get late Vikes pick for C Cole

Cards get late Vikes pick for C Cole … Amid all the hoopla yesterday surrounding the two monster first-round trades engineered by Miami, there actually was a 3rd trade, although no where near as seismic. Arizona sent C Mason Cole to Minnesota in exchange for a 6th round pick, #223 overall. Cole was a 3rd round pick by… Read More »

Virginia Tech pro day

NFL scouts were really looking forward to this year’s Va Tech pro day in anticipation of a truly freakish work out by Hokies’ star CB Caleb Farley, however, that came to naught when he had to pull out after undergoing minor back surgery earlier this month. Okay, so let’s check out OT Christian Darrisaw, another Virginia Tech player… Read More »

Western Michigan pro day

In a draft year loaded at WR one would not normally expect one of the hotter receivers to be a 5-8 guy from the MAC but these are definitely not normal times. And Western Michigan WR D’Wayne Eskridge is one of the hotter receivers out there after a solid performance at this year’s Senior Bowl and he didn’t… Read More »

Tennessee pro day

Both of Tennessee OG Trey Smith and WR Josh Palmer had very business-like workouts at the Vols’ pro day. Neither was spectacular, but they managed to check off all the boxes. Smith measured in at a robust 6-5.5 and 321 pounds, posted 32 reps in the BP, had a 31-inch vertical and ran the 40 in the mid-5.1… Read More »

Ole Miss WR Moore rips pro day

Ole Miss WR Moore rips pro day … Somebody must have juiced the water today as there were some really outstanding pro day performances across the country. We already reported on the Penn State numbers but Mississippi WR Elijah Moore was just as good at the Rebels on-campus workout. Moore wasn’t all that big at just 5-9.5 and… Read More »

Penn State pro day

Unfortunately, If a word could describe today’s pro day at Penn State that word would be ‘WOW’ as there were some very impressive performances. LB Micah Parsons, for example, made a top ten statement with an ‘official’ 4.39 40 clocking after measuring in at 6-3, 246. Parsons also had an impressive 3-cone drill time of 6.89 seconds, along… Read More »

Michigan State pro day

All 32 teams were represented at the Michigan State pro day, but they probably didn’t see a whole lot to get excited about. At least DT Naquon Jones, one of two former Spartans who were invited to the combine, at least has prototype size. Jones measured in at 6-3.5, 313 with 33-inch arms, but only ran the 40… Read More »

Southern Cal pro day

It was of disappointing day son balance for G/T Alijah Vera-Tucker at the USC pro day. He was actually a little taller than expected at 6-4.5, 308, but his arms at just a tad over 32-inches are very very short for an OL at any position. And neither of Vera-Tucker’s vertical (32 inches) nor long jumps (8-10) were… Read More »
