On the field, former Buckeyes’ DEs Sam Hubbard and Tyquan Lewis both ran for NFL teams after not… Read More »

Notre Dame

Irish pro day update … Not surprisingly, all 32 teams were at the Notre Dame pro day, although the only senior exec (or head coach) that appears to have been in attendance was Indianapolis G.M. Chris Ballard. However, there were a bunch of position coaches in attendance including at least a half a dozen OL coaches who were… Read More »

No surprise with QB Sam Darnold, the consensus favorite to be the #1 pick at this year’s draft, set to workout for the first time for pro scouts after he sat out the positional drills at the combine, there was an almost who’s who of NFL personnel people in attendance. Cleveland, which has the #1 pick and are… Read More »

All NFL teams had reps at the FSU pro day where MLB Matt Thomas had an outstanding outing as posted a very athletic 41.5″ vertival, a 10-11 long jump, a 4.58 40 clocking and a three-cone drill test of 6.85 seconds, each of which would have been among the top numbers for LBs at the combine. The interviews… Read More »

As many as 20 NFL teams were at the Penn workout where record-setting WR Justin Watson made some noise. Watson, who is listed at 6-3, 225, ran the 40 in an unofficial 4.42 seconds, had a 40″ vertical as well as 20 reps in the BP, each of which would have been among the top 5-6 figures at… Read More »

Because of the presence of RB Saquon Barkley,  the pretty near consensus #1 prospect overall for the 2018 draft, it was expected that there would be a big crowd in attendance including senior execs from teams with early picks. And there was a big crowd in attendance at the PSU pro day with every NFL represented; however, there… Read More »

An estimated 20 NFL teams had reps at the SU pro day. The dozen or so that passed on the event missed a combine worthy performance by veteran LB Zaire Franklin, who was not not invited to Indianapolis this year. However, Franklin made up for lost time as he churned out more 30 reps in the best which… Read More »

North Carolina State

NC State DE Bradley Chubb, a legit top 5 prospect for the 2018, was expected to be the big name at the Wolfpack pro day. Chubb got upstaged somewhat though by the surprise appearance of Patriots’ head coach Bill Belichek. Belichek was accompanied by the Patriots’ defensive line coach and while New England is unlikely to be in… Read More »

All but one NFL team was at the Tennessee pro day including a couple of G.M.s. Not surprisingly, Tennessee G.M. Jon Robinson was in attendance. No surprise too that Oakland G.M. Reggie McKenzie was in attendance as his son Khalil was one of the former Vol working out. Interesting that McKenzie, the younger, who played DT for the… Read More »

Oklahoma State

All 32 teams were represented at the Cowboys’ pro day, however, most of the NFL’s big hitters who were at the Oklahoma workout the previous day  including Denver G.M. John Elway didn’t hang around for the Oklahoma State pro day and instead went to Los Angeles to check out UCLA QB Josh Rosen. That had to be a… Read More »

A total of 27 teams, plus several from the CFL, were at the Nebraska pro day where strong-armed QB Tanner Lee went through a scripted 45-pass workout. Lee completed 41 of those passes including some artistic long throws. However, there’s never been much doubt about Lee’s arm strength and arm-talent. His issues have more to do with poise… Read More »

Virginia Tech

While most of the national pro day attention was on Oklahoma today, several teams were focused on other spots. Oakland G.M. Reggie Mckenzie, for example, passed on the chance to visit Norman and instead was at the Virginia Tech workout where he was no doubt checking out rising Hokies’ LB Tremaine Edmunds. And that makes sense because the… Read More »

Big turnout at OU pro day

Big turnout at OU pro day … Part of the fun of tracking pro days around the country is seeing who shows up from various NFL teams at which player’s pro days. Today, for example, there was a huge turnout at the Oklahoma pro day where QB baker Mayfield was the featured performer. Not surprisingly, all 32 NFL… Read More »

The big story at the Oklahoma pro day, of course, was Baker Mayfield’s scripted workout in front of a big crowd of pro personnel people including G.M.s John Elway of Denver and the Jets’ Mike Maccagnan. Mayfield went through a 70-pass scripted workout that according to early returns did nothing to hurt his chances. Mayfield, of course, wasn’t… Read More »

Wake Forest

As many as 29 NFL teams were in attendance at the Wake Forest pro day where rising FS Jesse Bates was the star attraction, although he stood largely on his combine performance. For the record, Pittsburgh, including head coach Mike Tomlin, got the prized evening before dinner date with Bates. Unfortunately, the Deamon Deacons best prospects other than… Read More »

Just about every NFL team (29 out of 32) was represented at the Vanderbilt pro day. At the same time, RB Ralph Webb, who was not at the combine, had a solid day as his unofficial 40… Read More »

Illinois only had 4 players worked out at the team’s pro day, none of whom are considered more than fringe prospects. Army OT Brett Toth couldn’t work out at the combine because of an ankle injury, but ran very well at the Army pro day where he reportedly ran the 40 in under 5.10 seconds. Kanoff still probably won’t be drafted but could be… Read More »

And nobody was buzzing more over the past couple of days than Cleveland. Of course, nothing can be formally announced… Read More »

Not a whole lot to get excited about at the Rutgers pro day. NFL personnel people, though, were looking forward to seeing star WR/KR Janarion Grant run. Grant had emerged as one of the best return men in college football early in his career, but struggled in 2017 after suffering a knee injury. Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear as… Read More »

No surprise here, but there was a good crowd at the Auburn pro day. Most were there likely to watch RB Kerryon Johnson run the 40 after he opted not to run at the combine. Johnson’s pro day run was okay as he was timed unofficially in 4.54 seconds which would have been in the top ten at… Read More »

Washington State

Reportedly 27 teams had reps at the Washington State workout. Two-time All-America OG Cody O’Connell, who was a surprising non-combine invite, measured in at a mammouth 6-8, 352 and managed 28 reps in the bench press. Unfortunately, the big issue for O’Connell was well he moves and there isn’t much to report on his times at the workout.… Read More »
