LBs now on the clock on the track!

Couple of runs we didn’t note first thru the DL heats. Illinois tweener Carroll Phillips ran a 4.64 40 with a 1.64 split. Same story for Youngstown State tweener Derek Rivers who was even quicker with a 4.61 time and a 1.61 split, while Utah’s Pita Taumoepenu broke the 4.7 mark (4.67) in the 40 with a 1.66… Read More »

Tim Williams of Miami was ‘in-the-ballpark’ for an OLB edge rusher with a 4.70 with a 1.66 split. K-State DE Jordan Willis wrapped up the first set for the second group of DEs with a blistering 4.53 40 with a 1.58 split the fastest of the day for the DL. We’ve noted before that we thought Willis could… Read More »

Very nice run by Stanford’s Solomon Thomas who posted a 4.70 40 with a 1.66 split. Unlike guys like Jonathan Allen and Taco Charlton who were both over 4.9, that time puts him squarely in position to figure as a 4-3 DE with the added advantage that at 273 pounds he can kick inside on passing downs.

Movin’ on up! Temple OLB Hasson Reddick kept it going with a 4.52 40 with a 1.60 split; he also helped himself with a 11-1 long jump and a 36.5 vertical.

Solid time by underrated 305-pound Charlotte DT Larry Ogunjobi of 5.09.

Really nice run by Takk McKinley who ran under 4.6 (4.59) with a quick 1.61 split in his first run.

Second group of d-linemen warming up for their 40s including Solomon Thomas from Stanford, UCLA’s Takk McKinley, hasson Reddick from Temple, Tim Williams of Alabama, Demarcus Walker of FSU and Kansas State’s Jordan Willis.

Much better run for Auburn’s Carl Lawson second time around; he gets under 4.7 (4.68) with a very quick 1.60 split.

Couple of other noteworthy efforts this morning on what has been a somewhat disappointing day so far; Trey Hendrickson of Florida Atlantic ran a nice 4.68 40 with an even quicker 1.62 split. Then was even quicker in his second run with a 1,59 split. And big ol’ Montravious Adams of Auburn is the only DT to break… Read More »

Much better run for Tarell Basham second time thru; after posting a 4.81 in his first run he posts a 4.7 flat with a 1.61 split, the fastest of the day so far.

Pretty good run for Michigan State DT Malik McDowell who has bulked up to 295, but still runs a 4.9 40 with a very quick 1.72 split. Again the bigger issue with McDowell is motor but at least when it goes it goes.

Disappointing time of just 4.82 for Carl Lawson of Auburn who doesn’t have much in the way of length so he needs to be explosive, but wasn’t really; split of 1.68 was a tad quicker, but I’m guessing NFL teams were looking for numbers under 4.7 and 1.65.

For the 31 teams that aren’t able to select Myles Garrett at the 2017 draft, his A&M teammate Daeshon Hall might make a nice consolation prize. Hall isn’t quite the same explosive athlete, but he showed some solid quickness of his own running a 4.76 40 with a 1.68 split. Mixed bag for tweener edge rusher Charles Harris… Read More »

Your serve! Myles Garrett runs a solid 4.64 at 272 pounds. Even more impressive perhaps was his 1.63 split which is really quick. Plus he just looks like a real rangy, confident kid.

And not necessarily a great time for DE Taco Charlton of Michigan who only posted a 4.92. Not bad for a 3-4 5T DE, but not necessarily the kind of explosion 4-3 teams are usually looking for in a first round 4-3 DE.

Derek Barnett did run this morning, but only clocked a 4.88 which won’t get it done for a 260-pound edge rusher. He’ll get a pass though until the Tennessee pro day because he was sick this week. Ohio edge rusher Tarell Basham also was a tenth or slower than one would like to see in an outside edge… Read More »

A little disappointing time for Bama’s Jonathan Allen who only clocked a 5.00 flat for his first 40. Pure speed was never Allen’s game but that may make it difficult to factor as a 4-3 DE and limit him to a 3-4 DE.

Good news in that Tennessee DE Derek Barnett reportedly feeling better and will workout today; he spent the day in bed yesterday fighting of an undisclosed illness.

NFL combine is rightfully abuzz about Washington WR John Ross’ new record of 4.22 for the 40 which is now official. (Note that this year the unofficial initial times are pretty matching up with the official results, unlike earlier years when one could quite literally add anywhere from 0.5-1.0 seconds. In fact, the overall impression was that this… Read More »

Wow. Washington’s John Ross just posted the fastest time ever for the 40 with a 4.22 clocking, although let’s wait for the final time. But gain Wow and he looked like he was barely braking a sweat. Now a tough call for NFL teams as the bigger issue for Ross though may be his overall health. He’s had… Read More »

QBs have finished their 40s; overall a pretty athletic group. Top prospects DeShaun Watson and Mitchell Trubisky both had very good 4.67 times, while DeShone Kizer had a 4.83 and Pat Mahomes a 4.80 and Davis webb 4.79. fastest QB though was Josh Dobbs in 4.64. Second group of WRs set to run featuring John Ross of Washington.

First group of QBs and WRs going thru passing drills. Hard to read too much into things but DeShone Kizer’s throws look like they are all over the place. Arm strength is there, but footwork is inconsistent. Meanwhile, have been impressed with Tennessee’s Josh Dobbs. Looks very confidant with a quick compact delivery; gets real nice spin. Good… Read More »

Great time for rising East Carolina WR Zay Jones of 4.46. Eastern Washington’s Cooper Kupp wasn’t as quick with a 4.62.

Penn State’s Chris Godwin posted the fastest time for the wideouts to date with a 4.42 clocking. Also a quick run by big-play Louisiana Tech WR/KR Carlos Henderson (4.46).
