Cardinal get top FCS coach

December 10, 2022

Cardinal get top FCS coach … It is not quite the sexy hire that several other prominent FBS programs made in filling their vacant head coaching position, but Stanford may have got a good one when they hired Troy Taylor away from Sacramento State, the #2 ranked team in the FCS ranks this fall. That would be the same Sac State that ran 109 plays, had 738 yards of total offense and scored 63 points in this weekend’s FCS quarter-final match-up with Incarnate Word – and lost 66-63! Taylor replaces long-time Cardinal head coach David Shaw who left after two disappointing 3-9 seasons. Of course, the hiring of Taylor pales in comparison another Pac-12 hire this week when embattled Colorado signed former NFL star Deion Sanders who had been at FCS Jackson State. Maybe the only question left is how quickly many of the undefeated JSU’s top players including star QB Shedur Sanders, Prime’s son, and WR/CB Travis Hunter, the #1 recruit in the country last year who decommited from Florida State to play for Sanders at an HBCU, join their former head coach at Colorado. In fact, there have a bunch of big-time head coaching hires in the college ranks including Matt Ruhle who is now at Nebraska, Luke Fickell now at Wisconsin, and Jeff Brohm, who left Purdue to return home to Louisville. Our Larry Parker has been tracking all the coaching moves in the both the college and NFL ranks here.
