Canes lose coach to retirement; top RB to draft … The Miami program is reeling this evening with the sudden announcement by head coach Mark Richt that he was retiring from football. Less than an hour later, junior RB Travis Homer announced that he will also be leaving school, but to enter the 2019 NFL draft where he projects to be a mid round pick. The 5-9, 205-pound Homer ran for 985 yards this fall while averaging 6 yards a pop and catching 19 passes. Homer will be joined in the 2019 draft fold by West Virginia junior ILB David Long. Long is a 4th-year junior who was a semifinalist for this year’s Butkus Award as the nation’s best linebacker; he is somewhat undersized at 5-10, 225, but is tough to block and has three-down quickness. This past season, Long had 111 tackles including 7 sacks and 12 other tackles for loss. On the other hand, two Michigan junior defensive backs including CB Lavert Hill and safety Josh Metelus has announced they will be returning to school for their senior campaigns.
