Browns-Giants meet

March 26, 2018

Guess who’s coming to breakfast … There is a little bit of a buzz around the league after Cleveland G.M. John Dorsey confirmed that he had breakfast with Giants’ GM Dave Gettleman earlier this morning at the NFL Annual Meeting in Orlando. What could the head honchos of the teams with the first and second picks at the draft possibly have to talk about. Dorsey reportedly blew it off saying that the two ‘just talked. Asked how our summers were. How was your fall offseason?” Yeah sure whatever! The meeting did set off some speculation that the two might have talked about swapping picks, although it seems unlikely as both are believed to be looking at different QBs with their top picks. At the same time, though, there is even more serious speculation that the Giants could be considering dealing enigmatic star WR Odell Beckham. The Giants deny that they are shopping #13, but have also indicated that no one on the roster is ‘untouchable.’ On the one hand, it’s hard to imagine the Giants trading one of the league’s most electrifying offensive threats. At the same time, though the Giants clearly have wearied of Beckham’s off-field antics. There is, for example, a video circulating online showing Beckham in bed holding what appeared to be a dark cigarette next to a woman who had what looked like white powder. Said, Giants owner John Mara: “I’m tired of answering questions about Odell’s behavior and what the latest incident is.” On top of that Beckham is reportedly threatening to hold out until he gets a contract extension. The Giants probably don’t want to move Beckham, but have to be concerned about his reliability if he ever did get that huge new contract. And if indeed the Giants are seriously considering moving on from Beckham this may be the time to do it. Its also just maybe where Cleveland might come into the picture. The Browns have the cap space to pay Beckham right now. They also have extra draft picks to make a blockbuster deal. It’s also not going to hurt that that Browns’ WR coach Adam Henry was Beckham’s position coach at LSU. Beckham would also feel at home in Cleveland which just acquired his former LSU teammate Jarvis Landry from Miami. Stay tuned!
