Brees staying; Brady leaving; Newton eyeing the door

Brees staying; Brady leaving; Newton eyeing the door … It has been an interesting morning to say the least for veteran QBs around the NFL. New Orleans got some good news with word that Drew Brees has resigned for two years. At the same time, Tom Brady has announced that he will definitely not be going  back to New England. In fact, observers around the league are a little surprised that he hasn’t signed elsewhere already, although it appears that the market may be a little softer than Brady was expecting. According to media reports the two team most interested in signing Brady are Tampa Bay and the LA Chargers. Meanwhile, Carolina has reportedly given Cam Newton permission to seek a trade. It was one of the NFL’s worst kept secrets that the Panthers were looking to move on from Newton, but had limited options as he is recovering from foot surgery that limited him to just two games last fall. Ironically, there are rumblings that the Panthers are interested in pursuing Saints’ veteran free agent QB Teddy Bridgewater now that Brees has re-upped for an extended period in New Orleans, although Carolina could also look to add a young arm with the 7th pick at next month’s draft. Stay tuned.
