Bowling for dollars; NOT; day two

December 20, 2019

Bowling for dollars, NOT; day two … For those not totally enamored with the three NFL games on Saturday, there is also a full half dozen bowl games on the schedule. Its hard to make the case, though, that any of Saturday’s bowl games are even close to falling in the ‘must-see’ category, although the Las Vegas Bowl match-up between #20 Boise State and Washington at 7:30 PM ET on ABC at least comes close. In fact, the Broncos-Huskies could have featured one of the bowls best individual match-ups with disruptive BSU DE Curtis Weaver (#99, 6-3, 265) going against UW LT Trey Adams. However, Adams opted not to play in the bowl, so scratch that notion. Washington will actually be down a second top prospect as junior TE Hunter Bryant, potentially the first player at the position off the board this coming April, is also sitting out to prepare for the draft. BSU’s Weaver, an early second-day prospect who was one of the most productive edge-rushers in college football this past season with 13.5 sacks, though, will play. So will Washington QB Jacob Eason (#10, 6-5, 230), another likely second rounder, as will veteran UW C Nick Harris (#56, 6-1, 305) and Boise State LT Ezra Cleveland (#76, 6-6, 310), both of whom are considered to be more mid-round candidates. Unfortunately, it does not appear as if there will be many other potential top 100 candidates playing on Saturday, although there are at least a couple of players worth checking out including Liberty WR Antonio Gandy-Golden (#11, 6-4, 220), just maybe the best player in the country nobody has heard of. He’s a big physical receiver who had 74 receptions for over 1,300 yards and 9 scores this past season and will be in action when the Flames play Georgia Southern in the Cure Bowl at 2:30 PM ET on CBSSN. Meanwhile, Appalachian State junior RB Darrynton Evans (#3, 5-10, 210) is one of the better runners in the country barely anybody has seen, or for that matter heard of, but pro scouts, though, are on his trail after the scatback ran for over 1,300 yards and 23 TDs this past fall. The 20th ranked Mountaineers play UAB in the New Orleans Bowl at 9 PM ET on ESPN. Also keep an eye on Florida Atlantic TE Harrison Bryant when FAU plays SMU in the Boca Raton Bowl at 3:30 PM ET on ABC. Bryant’s a little lean, but he’s a terrific receiver who had over 1,000 receiving yards this fall enroute to being awarded the John Mackey Award, the first ever non-power 5 conference player to be so honored.
