Bonus coverage: WRs on parade … We previewed Saturday’s two big college football games in an earlier post, but there are actually a couple of other potentially interesting games on the college docket this evening as Stanford plays at Syracuse (7:30 PM ET; ESPN) – and yes its a conference game between schools almost 2,800 miles apart – while #22 Illinois plays at #24 Nebraska (8 PM ET; FOX). And while there are no probable first-round picks in either game, there are a number of intriguing WRs. Syracuse, for example, has a potential match-up problem in Oronde Gadsen (#19, 6-4, 230), who’s has TE size, but the speed and quickness of a much smaller receiver, while Stanford features Elic Ayemanor (#13, 6-2, 210), a 3rd year Canadian who was a track star in high school; for the record, he’s the receiver who made that truly remarkable catch over star Colorado CB Travis Hunter in last year’s dramatic Cardinal comeback win over the Buffs in which Ayenanor had 294 receiving yards and 3 TDs. Meanwhile, today’s trivia question is: who is college football’s current active leading receiver. Give up? The answer is Zakhari Franklin (#4, 6-1, 190), now of Illinois who had two 1,000 plus seasons earlier in his career at UTSA. Franklin actually transferred to Mississippi last year, but was injured in training camp and ultimately barely played so h’s giving it one more shot at Illinois where he combines with fellow senior Pat Bryant (#13, 6-2, 200) to give the Illini a pretty good pair of receivers.
