Blue Field prospect watch

December 19, 2022

Bonus coverage: blue field prospect watch … Usually the only reason to watch the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl is to marvel at the blue field in Boise. This year, though, pro scouts will actually be watching the action when Eastern Michigan (8-4) plays San Jose State (7-4) at 3:30 Tuesday afternoon on ESPN as both teams have some interesting late-round prospects. EMU DE Jose Ramirez (#55, 6-2, 255), for example, was the MAC defensive player of the year after racking up 12 sacks this fall. SJSU actually one ups the Eagles as they have two good edge rushers in DEs Junior Fehoko (#42, 6-4, 265) and Cade Hall (#92, 6-3, 270) who had 9 and 7.5 sacks respectively this season. At the same time, WR Elijah Cooks (#4, 6-3, 215) and LB Kyle Harmon (#45, 6-0, 225) are also 1st team Mountain West players.

Edge rushers will also be the featured players in Tuesday’s second game when Liberty (8-4) plays MAC champion Toledo (8-5) in the Boca Raton Bowl (7:30 PM ET; ESPN), which appears to have something to do with a roof! DE Durrell Johnson (#11, 6-3, 240), for example, who was among the leaders nation-wide in tackles for loss this fall when he racked up 22.5 TFL including 8 sacks, leads Liberty, while Toledo’s best players are DEs Desjuan Johnson (#1, 6-3, 275), who had 16.5 TFL of his own, and Jamal Hines (#91, 6-3, 250) while pro scouts will also keep a close eye on redshirt sophomore CB Quinyon Mitchell (#27, 6-0, 200) who led the country with 25 pass breakups this fall including 5 picks.
