Big turnout at OU pro day … Part of the fun of tracking pro days around the country is seeing who shows up from various NFL teams at which player’s pro days. Today, for example, there was a huge turnout at the Oklahoma pro day where QB baker Mayfield was the featured performer. Not surprisingly, all 32 NFL teams were represented at the OU workout. And not surprisingly, the two teams that figure to be the most interested in selecting Mayfield were also the only two teams whose G.M.s were in attendance. In fact, not only did Denver, which has the 5th pick this year, have G.M. John Elway in Norman today, the Broncos led the league with a total of 7 reps at the OU pro day including head coach Vance Joseph. Meanwhile, the NY Jets, who have the next pick after Denver, also had G.M. Mike Maccagnan at the OU pro day. It is also interesting to note that neither Cleveland nor the NY Giants, who have the 1st and 2nd picks respectively, did not have any senior execs in Norman today, although the Giants did have 5 reps on site – headed by offensive co-ordinator Mike Shula – the second most on the day. At the same time, the Browns had VP of Player Personnel Alonzo Highsmith at Mayfield’s workout, although it should be noted that the Browns do have a private workout scheduled with Mayfield prior to the draft. At the same time, Cincinnati head coach Marvin Lewis was also at the OU pro day. On the field, Mayfield went through a scripted workout of 70 passes, 62 of which were completed along with 1 drop. That’s not bad, although one might have expected a slightly higher accuracy figure particularly from a player whose primary strength is accuracy. The general consensus, at least based on early returns, though, appears to be that Mayfield did nothing to hurt his chances of being an early pick this year. Of course, Mayfield wasn’t the only former Sooner working out today. Here’s a quick summary of some of the other OU pro day highlights.
