Who to watch in college football; Sunday, September 6th

September 5, 2026

LOUISVILLE (9-4) v MISSISSIPPI (13-2); at Nashville; 7:30 PM  ET; ABC: Its been something of a ‘win-some, lose-some’ off-season at Ole Miss. The Rebs suffered what originally appeared as one of the biggest losses of the year anywhere in the country when head coach Lane Kiffen bolted the team in the midst of their run to the 2025 CFP playoffs for the greener pastures of LSU. However, its been looking more like almost good riddance for the Rebels of late as Kiffen takes on the world ofcollege football in trying to get several former players who had been in NFL camps this summer back on campus. The Rebels also got some major consolation when star QB Trinidad Chambliss (#6, 6-0, 205) was awarded a 6th year of eligibility; he’s clearly one of the most productive passers in the country, but his ultimate draft status is still TBD as he’s not all that tall at barely 6-0 and is somewhat older than most QBs in the draft. No such questions, though, about star RB Kerwan Lacy (#5, 5-11, 205) one of the top 2-3 prospects at the position after he ran for almost 1,600 yards and 24 scores last fall, although he is still something of a borderline opening round candidate. In the end, though, the Rebels best prospect could ultimately be rising DT Will Echoles (#52, 6-3, 315), who is also considered to be among the top 2-3 prospects at deep 2027 position, while other Rebels to watch include athletic LB Suntarine Perkin (#4, 6-2, 220), WRs Isaiah Spencer (#5, 6-2, 205) and Deuce Alexander (#1, 6-0, 180), OG Patrick Kutas (#75, 6-5, 315) and veteran DT Jeheim Oatis (9, 6-5, 340). For its part, Louisville doesn’t necessarily have  ton of top prospects for the upcoming draft, but what they do have are pretty good including star edge-rusher Clev lubin (#50, 6-3, 260), who has some legitimate first-round credentials, along with star RBIsaac Brown (#1, 5-9, 190) who isn’t all that big, but is fast eexplosive and elusive.

NOTRE DAME (10-2) v WISCONSIN (4-8); at Green Bay, 7:30 PM ET; NBC: The Irish got some small measure of consolation after being screwed out of a CFP playoff spot last year when star RB Jeremiyah Love was the 3rd player selected overall this past April. In fact, it was the 2nd time in three years that the Irish had a player taken with a top 10 pick. And the Irish could make it two straight, and 3 out of 4, years with a player taken with a top 5-10 pick the upcoming draft as CB Leonard Moore (#15, 6-2, 200) is considered to be the top prospect in the country at the position; indeed, there’s a buzz about the league that he could actually be the 2nd best non-QB prospect in this draft behind Ohio State WR Jeremiah Smith. In fact, the Irish could actually have a couple of top 10 candidates . The Irish draft class would also get a huge boost is QB C.J. Carr, who is being favorably compared to the likes of Moore, Manning and Sayin, opts to enter the 2027 draft, although as a redshirt sophomore with two more years of eligibility he may be inclined to stick with the program for a while longer. Back to the secondary for a moment, the Irish mav have the deepest CB room in college football as fellow CB Christian Gray (#29, 6-0, 200) has some late first round potential of his own as does DJ McKinney (#2, 6-0, 190) who transferred over from Colorado. Notre Dame also has several other decent prospects with second-day or mid-round grades including LBs Drayk Bowen (34, 6-235) and Kingstonn Viliamu-Asa (#27, 6-2, 235). OG Anthonie Knapp  (#54, 6-4, 305), WRs Jordan Faison (#6, 5-11, 185) and Jaden Greathouse (#1, 6-1, 215, and DE Boubacar Traore #5, (6-4, 255). Unfortunately, the Badgers football program has fallen on some hard times, very hard times; indeed, one could quite literally say that Wisconsin’s 2027 draft pool is empty. Ouch!

WASHINGTON STATE (7-6) at WASHINGTON (9-4); 4 PM ET; NBC: The two in-state rivals meet for the 118th time for this year’s edition of the Apple Cup; and while the home-town Huskies are the heavy favorites, this game is often one in which you just throw the form chart out. What this game will do, though, is introduce a large part of the nation to Washington’s dynamic dual-threat QB Demond Williams (#1, 5-11, 190) one of the most exciting players in the country, although given his somewhat diminutive size there will be questions about his ultimate draft prospects. The Huskies also have an intriguing OL candidate in Drew Azzopardi (#74, 6-6, 325), while safety Alex McLaughlin (#7, 6-2, 205) who led the Huskies with 93 tackles in 2025 heads the defence. The good news for WSU this fall: they’re back in a conference again as the Pac-12 has re-invented itself with the Cougars and Oregon State Beavers joining the remnants of the old Mountain West including Boise State, San Diego State, Fresno State and Colorado State. The bad for the Cougars is that they appear to be in full rebuilding mode and don’t have much at all in the way or real 2027 draft prospects.
