2027 QB controversies start early … The start of the 2027 draft is still almost 340 days away, but already there are some rumblings as to what the top QB prospects might or might not do based on which teams are likely to select them. At least one national analyst is suggesting, for example, the Texas QB Arch Manning, generally considered to be one of the top two prospects at the position for the upcoming draft, may opt not to play for the NY Jets if they selected this coming April. He also hinted that one reason Oregon’s Dante Moore, the other top QB prospect, opted to return to school this fall even though he was being thought of as a potential top 5 pick in 2026, again because of concerns that he might be selected by the Jets. Meanwhile, we are also hearing whispers that some of this year’s top QB prospects aren’t keen on going to Arizona, which like the Jets are projected to have a very early pick at the upcoming draft.
Of course, in addition to possibly pulling a John Elway-Eli Manning and refusing to report to the team that drafts them if they aren’t happy with it, with NIL money etc., they can also simply opt to return to school for another season. And the fact is that just about all the top QB prospects for 2027, including Manning and Moore, will have eligibility remaining after this season and therefore options. However, it certainly does look, at least at this point, that 2027 will have a strong QB class.
