Love to miss Oregon State game

October 26, 2017

No’ love’ for Bonus coverage … Updating our earlier report (see below) on Stanford RB Bryce Love, the Cardinal just announced that their star RB will not play in tonight’s nationally televised game against Oregon State (9PM ET; ESPN).

For those that don’t follow college football all that closely, maybe the best player in the country that nobody has really seen is Stanford junior RB Bryce Love who is in what appears to be a 3-way Heisman Trophy race with Penn State RB Saquon Barkley and Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield. The latter two get more national pub, but the explosive Love is having a season for the ages. Love is averaging almost 200 rushing yards per game through the first half of the campaign. He’s also averaging an almost ridiculous 10.3 yards per carry. One sees that kind of number every once in a while from a back who only gets a few touches per game, but Love is averaging over 19 yards per game. And hopefully fans will get a chance to check out Love later this evening when the 20th ranked Cardinal plays at Oregon State at 9 PM ET o ESPN. Hopefully, because Love has been dealing with an ankle issue of late and is listed as a game-time decision, but all indications are that is a go. It also doesn’t appear as if Love is getting a lot of ‘love’ from pro scouts. The current consensus seems to be that he’s a second-day type prospect. Love’s not all that big at 5-10 and a bulked up 195 pounds and he isn’t going to move the pile, but he is fast. In fact, Love holds a couple of national age group 100M records; too boot he’s quick, explosive and instinctive and in a year in which the Top 10 is as murky as mud is the type of player with the potential to rocket up draft boards around the league if he blows up pre-draft workouts this winter. Stay tuned.Love tweaked his ankle in a game two weeks ago against Oregon. Despite having a bye week to recover last week, the extra time off was apparently not enough to make sure Love, a pivotal piece of Stanford’s offense, was good to go. And with big games on the horizon against Washington State and Washington, it is clearly in the best interest for Stanford and their Pac-12 hopes to take every precaution necessary with Love, not to mention in his own best interest to ensure he is fully healed and ready.
