Browns name Kizer starter

Browns name rook QB Kizer starter– for now … Wednesday was supposed to be D-Day for QBs in Cleveland as the Browns were expected to announce their starter for the start of the season today. Instead, Browns head coach Hue Jackson said rookie DeShone Kizer would start in this week’s pre-season game against Tampa Bay. Jackson wouldn’t go farther and commit to going with Kizer when the Browns open their regular season on September 10th against Pittsburgh, but it would appear that the job is now at least Kizer’s to lose. The Browns’ starting gig had been veteran Brock Osweiler’s to lose entering the pre-season schedule, but he’s been underwhelming through the first two weeks as he has barely averaged 3 yards a pass attempt. Kizer was a second round pick at the 2018 draft where Cleveland took him with the 52nd pick overall after passing on the top rated prospects at the position in the opening round. Through the first two pre-season games, Kizer has completed 19 of 31 passes (61%) for 258 yards and a score; he’s also given the Browns’ offense a bit of a boost with his ability to take off and run with the ball. By only formally naming Kizer the starter for this week, the Browns do give themselves an out if he should struggle against the Buccaneers.
