Big XII Championship Preview

Big XII Championship: #3 Oklahoma (11-1) vs #11 TCU (10-2); Dallas; 12:30 PM ET; FOX …

The big-time championship games get underway on Saturday afternoon when Oklahoma plays TCU in the Big XII title contest at the Cowboys’ stadium in Arlington. And since this is the Big XII, expect a shoot-out with veteran QBs Baker Mayfield (#6, 6-1, 220) of Olahoma and TCU’s Kenny Hill (#7, 6-1, 215). OU’s Mayfield, in fact, is the runaway consensus favorite to win this year’s Heisman Trophy after throwing for over 4,000 yards and 37 TDs this fall while completing 71% of his pass attempts and throwing just 5 picks. However, because he isn’t that tall, Mayfield is something of a polarizing prospect for the upcoming draft as scouts will tell you that he’d be a candidate to be the first player selected if he three inches taller, but he’s not so let the debate begin. The Horned Frogs’ Hill actually isn’t any taller than Mayfield, but he is not considered to be more than a late round prospect, although he also put up good numbers this fall

Along with QB Mayfield, Oklahoma also has several other potential first-round prospects including mammoth junior OT Orlando Brown (#78, 6-7, 345), edge rushing OLB Ogbonnia Okronkwo (#31, 6-1, 240), a rising star who had 8 sacks and 9.5 other tackles for loss this fall, and big-play junior TE Mark Andrews (#81, 6-5, 255). Meanwhile, other Sooners to watch including CB Jordan Thomas (#7, 6-0, 185), SS Steven Parker (#10, 6-0, 205); and DE D.J. Ward (#87, 6-2, 240).On the other hand, TCU really doesn’t have any top draft prospects, but they do have a veteran roster featuring a number of decent later round candidate along with QB Hill including RB Kyle Hicks (#21, 5-9, 210), OT Joe Noteboom (#68, 6-5, 310), wide-body OG Matt Pryor (#64, 6-6, 3400, C Austin Schlottman (#51, 6-5, 300), DE Matt Boesen (#9, 6-3, 240), SLB Travin Howard (#32, 6-0, 215), CB Ranthony Texada (#11, 5-9, 170) and safety Nick Orr (#18, 5-9, 190).
